Our female tattoo users need a way to find the best tattoo artists in their local area because they want the best artwork tattooed on their bodies that is meaningful to them and personal.

We will know this to be true when we see how many users are using the app and how many tattoo artists are promoting their services on the app.

HYPOTHESIS

“An app that allows local tattoo artists to promote their best work to attract the right clients. The app will be a starting point for “newbies” wanting to get their first tattoo as well as tattoo enthusiasts. The app aims to elevate the tattoo industry into the luxe market by offering the most beautiful designs (aka artwork) specifically targeted to women.”

POTENTIAL PROBLEMS

• Lack of female representation in tattoo industry (dominated by men)
• Stereotypes of only certain women/men get certain tattoos.
• Women have a variety of personal and emotional reasons to get a tattoo, this market is undervalued.
• Female tattoo artists have very little opportunities to promote their services online, challenge to market and challenge to find right clients.
• Tattoos elevated to fine art status and should be marketed & valued as such.
• Challenge for a “newbie” to find an artist and to find artwork/designs etc.

Card Sorting exercise for the first round of site map did not yield any surprise since the concept of a "My Story" and "Community" sections of the app is a brand new concept in this industry. None of the participants understood what "My Story" and "Story Posts" would be and therefore confirmed that this section needs more on boarding/tutorial education to clearly illustrate this new idea. AR and Sketching were also mysterious since AR (Augmented Reality) is a newer concept for apps. This was helpful to conclude in concrete evidence how I should re-organize the concept to make each section clearer.
I performed two (2) preference tests and both were a bit inconclusive. Second preference I thought would be a clear winner (the white one) but surprising myself, the white version won by 58% to the black background 42%. If I had more time, I would've continued to narrow the options to create a more conclusive result with a clear winner for me to continue.s
Example here of the first error message that all six participants agreed was very confusing in the testing. I completed five more reports and findings for each issue because all of these I found critical to address before moving forward with the prototype. These findings provided direct feedback for what to "fix" in the next round of prototypes. I would continue to revise and tweak this process until I found a prototype that I could find mostly errors on the "1" or "2" scales so that we could roll out a version sooner rather than later, and then continue to improve the design once live.
NEW HYPOTHESIS

This is an app that allows a growing community of female tattoo artists, and women who are looking for inspired tattoo designs, to connect online. This app is a digital platform that offers the opportunity to share personal stories of the “why” behind choosing the tattoo design, which often reveals unique stories of empowerment and healing. This offering brings women closer together and becomes a source of inspiration.

We will know this to be true when we receive positive reviews on the app specific to the growing community, when we see how many users are using the app, and when we also see the app is not being deleted on phones, but utilized even after the tattoo process has been completed.
